Well, it came and went… The 2010 Mayhem Festival in Auburn, WA was an event but did it deliver?
The crowd this year seemed to be a little thin compared to last year, but that didn’t mean those who were there didn’t experience any fun, because they did.
To me this years lineup on all the stages seemed to be a little heavier and more polished than in years past. I for one wasn’t too excited about any of the bands until I got there and and really took a hard look at the crowd and listened to the bands. You gotta leave it to the crowd to let you know if things are favorable, and they were.
I won’t go over the details of the show other than to tell you that Five Finger Death Punch stole the main stage show for a lot of fans, but I found a new respect for Rob Zombie and Korn, and put them at the top of my repeat play-list now.
The highlight of the day came when my interview partner Litsa and I were privileged with the opportunity to interview guitar players John 5 of Rob Zombie and Munky of Korn.
John 5 is very true to his craft, and a all around nice guy; Munky is the buddy that you want to hangout with and have some fish and chips and a pint of beer with.
Every one of the band members we ran into backstage were polite, easy, and a treat to talk with. But get them on stage, and they became the personified rock stars that they really are- loud, crude, rude, and AWESOME!
If the Mayhem Festival is yet to come to your town, don’t miss it. You don’t have to spend the entire day there, but you may want to make a day of it and have a picnic lunch and bask in the sun while you wait for the main stage acts to come on.
