It may have been Ozzy Osbourne’s night at the Tacoma Dome, but the former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses packed quiet a punch as the opening act for the show.
I arrived just in time to shoot a couple of songs from the set, but nearly forgot what I was doing there because I was somewhat blown away with how good the band sounded. I guess it really shouldn’t have been that big of a surprise having seasoned musicians, but I honestly didn’t have much of an expectation.
I wasn’t allowed to shoot anything past the first three songs, but from the backstage area I could hear a GNR song “Nighttrain” being played. Although that was one of my favorite GNR songs, and it didn’t sound exactly like it did 20+ years ago, I was really getting into it.
Pretty much everything I heard was from the backstage of the venue (I didn’t have a ticket to review the show) so about all I can say for this one is that I enjoyed what I heard, and loved what I saw.
I know a lot of you out there had hopes as I did that we’d have a chance to interview Slash this time around but it didn’t happen again. But, there’s always next time, and there’s plenty of Slash fans out there reading this to make it happen.
Will there ever be a real reunion of GNR? I highly doubt it, but one can never say never. In the mean time, we have different members of GNR going about the music business playing to thousands of fans all over the world. Each one of them successful in their own right, making music that we love to hear.
Slash will have another solo album out sometime in 2012, and I for one can’t wait for a taste of that!
