Following Demian Maia’s total domination of Jon Fitch at UFC 156, SoundEntertainmentNews spoke with Demain and a his camp about the fight and whats to come.
Regarding the fight, Demain stated that in this weight class, he’s not carrying around all the extra pounds which has improved his endurance tremendously. He had a Plan A and a Plan B coming into this fight and after three rounds with Fitch, there was no need for Plan B. Demian later told SoundEntertainmentNews that Plan B involved some specific striking techniques that his camp had worked on after studying Fitch. As usual regarding the judges, there were lots of questions as to what would be considered a 10-8 round. Many people thought that the first round should have been a 10-8 for Demian.
So after a complete and total domination of one of the best wrestlers in the welterweight division, who would be next for Demian Maia? Demian’s camp believes that he definitely deserves a top 5 fighter, but most of those fighters are booked and would required Maia to wait a while before fighting. Instead of waiting until possibly the end of the year, “Tarec Saffiedine would be a good option” says Maia.
Maia is unbeaten at welterweight with wins over Dong Hyun Kim and Rick Story by submission and now with this very impressive win over Jon Fitch.
