This guy has to be the happiest performer that I’ve seen in a very long time, there was nothing fake about him, Al Green owned the night.
The air was cool, but full of soul as the capacity crowd of people waited to hear and see Al Green. It truly was a diverse crowd of people that night too, from every race and age group people waited as the sun went down and the lights came up on stage bring to life one of the best Grammy Award winning performer of the 70’s. From the moment Green came on stage waving his arms in the air with his white gloves on, he smiled like a child eating cotton candy at a carnival; and trust me, I along with everyone there felt the same. We were in for a treat!
He sang his familiar tunes, and the not so familiar tunes, and then the newest stuff which was like the oldest stuff, great. Green walked from one end of the stage to the other handing out roses to women in the crowd working it like a consummate pro. It’s remarkable to me that some of these guys have the stamina to do this sort of thing night-after-night, year-after-year and continue to put on a quality show.
I liked Al Green before, but I’m a fan now. It may have taken me 30+ years but his songs are now on permenent rotation in my itunes catelog.
