The newest Bond franchise, Skyfall opened last Friday, 11/9 with an estimated $31,700,000 dollars earning top billing for Friday night. The movie kept its pace the entire weekend bringing in an estimated $90,000,000 for the three day weekend making it the highest weekend gross for the Bond franchise, even after adjusting for inflation.
The movie opened as all Bond movies do, with a fantastic chase scene (which we’ve seen parts of it on trailers) but still lives up to all its hype and then some.
I went to the 10:20pm showing because everything before that was already sold out. I sat in my seat and prepared myself for the two plus hours of my life that I’ll never see again, but seated in the dark waiting for what everyone else was waiting for- entertainment at its best!
As I said, the movie started with the must have opening chase sequence through exotic locations that most of us only dream about going to, like; Scotland, Turkey, or Shanghai, but have the chance to live it through movies like Skyfall. (Me, I pretend I’m Bond and live it to the fullest)
This installment of the Bond movies brings us up to date with current world threats- cyber threats, which in real life can cripple anything from an individual to an entire nation with the press of a couple of keys on a keyboard attached to a computer from the comfort a your own living room, without ever getting oneself dirty. I won’t go into details of how the movie progresses, nor the character developments. I’d just rather tell you that this movie is kind of like the old meets the new, the new vs. the old. Without giving up any details of the movie, all I can say is that Bond has matured in nature, and the movie lives up the the 50 year old Franchise.
Will future Bond movies change their formula for success? I doubt it, but anytime a movie comes out with anything that says, “007” you can count me in a movie goer.
My suggestion to you, is if you haven’t seen the movie, plan to see it on the big screen. As with any of these types of movies, the bigger the picture, the bigger the thrill.
