“My job is to put on fights that people want to watch.” says Dana White. He continued to tell a group of reporters that ” We’re starting UFC rankings. We’re going to have our own ranking system….we’re going to rank UFC fighters.”
The UFC has been in business with FightMetric LLC for several years which handle all statistics for the fights. FightMetrics LLC have come up with a system to rank UFC fighters. Invitations to 90 media members have been sent out which will help with the rankings. The fighter rankings are expected to be completed on February 11th, 2013.
So why is the UFC doing fighter rankings? According to White, there are two types of fights, the fights that make sense and the fights that people want to see. White used Anderson Silva vs Jon Jones as an example of a fight that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense according to rankings, but a lot of people would love to see it. White added “as the sport continues to get bigger and bigger and reaches out into the mainstream…..mainstream people understand numbers.”
