Kid Rock’s latest album marks number 12 for the career of someone who from all outward appearances, may seem one of the least likeliest persons to make a career out of music. But, it’s apparent that music is his love, and that he has a flair for writing good to great tunes.
Starting with the opening track, ‘Chicken In The Pen‘ you get a sense that this record has got some soul to it, and it makes you want to clap your hands. The next track, ‘Let’s Ride‘ starts with a simple rock-n-roll beat, and carries through the song that reminds me of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and good ole’ Kid Rock all rolled into one song. This song makes you want to pump your fist in the air and stand-up for your rights, and sing at the top of your lungs. ‘Catt Boogie’ is just way too cool and a laid back song with an old style sound and backing vocals. The title track from the album, ‘Rebel Soul’ is one of those songs that speaks to and from the heart of anyone who’s felt like they are going through the world on their own.
I can tell you with confidence that this album is one that you can listen to in your car, while in the shower, or have in the background and enjoy every track over, and over again. (well, maybe not too many times in a row)
I think my favorite track is, ‘God Save Rock n Roll’ even with it’s country twang it makes me feel like I’m in a Chevy pickup driving down a dirt road with pretty girl sittin next to me. Just miles of flat roads, corn, cows, and at the end of the rainbow is a swimming hole where all my friends are splashing in the water having a good o’ time.
