Robin Hood hits a bullseye

I was at first really excited to see the New Robin Hood movie starring Russell Crowe as Robin Longstride aka Robin Hood, but as the movie neared its opening day I feared for the the worse; a flop.

Not so, the opening scenes with the parchment paper and old style text turned me off but I got used to it quickly as the movie set its plot.

Like today, the

movie sets its pace during a depression and the leader of the land, King John, successor to King Richard after an untimely death sets forth to tax the land. As the movie moves forward we get to know more about the characters of Robin Hood, and Marion Loxley of Nottingham, and how the two came to be.

I have to admit, I wasn’t all that familiar with this version of the legend of Robin Hood. I only knew of the childhood stories of Robin Hood and his merry

men living in Sherwood Forest, robbing the rich an giving to the poor. Other than that, the skills of Robin and his longbow (bow and arrow).

I feel that Ridley Scott did a fantastic job of directing the movie/actors, and the choice of actors was well suited. In fact, the cast was almost a who’s who of today’s finest actors including Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, and Max Von Sydow just to name a few.

This may no

t be a movie

for all ages, but I think it certainly hits the mark for the 15-70 age bracket which covers just about everyone anyhow. By the way, ladies, no talking during the movie… I say this because I had a couple of ladies perhaps in their later 50’s to ea

rl 60’s chattering up a storm during the movie just enjoying themselves. You know who you are! hahaha.

There was enough of a balance between story and action keeping you waiting for the next battle, but also keeping you glued to the story. The final battle scene was something like Saving Private Ryan (not quiet as realistic and good) but good enough to thoroughly enjoy it.

In my book this was a very good movie, and I’d give it 3.5 stars out of a possible 5. Go see, and enjoy it. Don’t take it to heart for the legend, but go for a somewhat revised story, and have a fun time!
