When I hear that Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) are coming to town, I know my favorite time of the year is near.
Last year TSO brought with them what I thought would be an unbeatable show; was I wrong! The 2010 show was over-the-top, with even more pyrotechnics, lasers, lights, new talent, and a pair of catwalks jetting out over the crowd.
With a couple of new singers and a change at what I call the podium (narrator), everything was seamless and smooth like an orange creamsicle. You know what you’re going to get is going to be good, but when you take your first bite it’s always better than what’s expected and remembered. That’s what TSO is always like.
It’s hard to imagine that so many people have not seen TSO yet; but by a show of hands, it looked to me that half the crowd of thousands who showed up for the afternoon show were first-timers.
I was fortunate enough to be 11 rows from the stage and right smack in the epicenter of what was truly one of the most spectacular show of light, laser, fire and sound that I have ever been a part of. I had a feeling of wonderment and excitement as all my senses were being tested.
A wave of heat engulfed me as fire filled the stage behind the musicians. A sudden sensation of cold air filled air as snow fell from above, and a light show so spectacular, like the aurora borealis loomed overhead took me to another place where all things were magical. I was in the holiday spirit!
To my left a man in his forty’s played the air drums (pretended he was drumming, hitting imaginary drums in the air) as he mimic the real drummer on stage. In front of me, an entire family waved their arms in the air with excitement as the violinist arched her back, nearly touching the ground as she played with precise timing and precision skill. And all around me, seats were filled with good people who all came to experience a good time, and walked out of the show happier and more tolerant of the world around them, if not only for one afternoon.
Every year TSO brings in the start of the holiday season, and it’s a tradition for me and thousands- no, make that millions of fans that TSO signals an end to the old and the start of a new year is just around the corner. And every year they allow me to escape to a place where memories, hopes, and dreams come to life, giving me my peace on earth at just the right time.
Merry Christmas to all, and and to all a good-night!
